chatGPT Summary: From June to August 2024, a summer collective consisting of three colleagues will engage in a prompt-based challenge aimed at fostering collaboration and self-directed projects, with each member contributing prompts reflecting their artistic interests and explorations.

Vancouver, on stolen MST territory – From June 2024 – August 2024, my summer collective, made up of colleagues KM and SC (and myself) will engage in a prompt-based challenge to get our creative juices flowing, to feel out what collaboration feels like between our three practices, and to engage in self-directed projects without the need for institutional validation.

In particular, SC mentioned that she wanted to engage with her practice as a printmaker following a few years out of art school. Her perspective and approach have changed, but she wanted space to explore who she was within her print-making practice now compared to who she was when she graduated. I’m looking forward to seeing what this exploration produces.

For KM, I have been wanting to engage creatively with him as we have been working in a professional capacity for the past few years – and while creativity is never exempt from anything we do – I was craving something tangible that allowed them to produce work that was solidly theirs in community with me (and SC) and see how their artist practice is adjacent or connected to mine.

I continue to be a multimedia artist in the truest sense. There is no one media that matches what I want to say. I am changeable and conflicted and a beehive of ideas. This volatile mix has made it difficult for me to converse consistently with other artists. I sometimes crave community, but I resist it, knowing my needs and responses will constantly change. There is comfort and safety in a prompt-based response challenge – allowing me to work alongside others without requiring daily participation or consistency.

We have each of us devised a prompt for the three summer months. I took on the first prompt with SC to provide one in July and KM to produce one in August.

Prompt one: June

The speed (pace) of technology

Technology, whether we approach it from the perspective of the simple machines we use in our daily lives or from the ever-shifting sands of the digital frontier, is a fundamental part of what makes us human. Each of us has a unique relationship with technology, from aids and processes to the personal devices we choose. What is the speed or pace of technology as it relates to you and your art practice?

Technology note:

I continue to test the use of AI within my writing and artistic practice. I used chatGPT to create a summary for this blog, and Grammarly to assist me in spelling and grammar.
